A Facebook group has been started so that those involved in organising
events etc can communicate easily.
A contact database is also being developed, which will include details of
everyone from school Agricultural teachers to Limousin breeders, and exhibitors
of Limousins at the heifer show.

Program

Open to all schools preparing a Limousin steer for the Royal Adelaide Show.

One day education program:
- Approximately March (beginning of school year and commencement of steer
preparation);
- Hosted at a Limousin stud;
- Program to cover:
- structural assessment;
- steer assessment (fat/muscle) for slaughter and selction of steer prior
to show;
- breaking;
- nutrition;
- grooming, washing;
- clipping;
- how to use gear:
- rope halters versus hackamores;
- nose clips;
- show canes;
- different types of brush/comb;
- show preparation and ring craft;
- basic meat science, eg cause of dark cutting.
- Junior and Full members to conduct sessions;
- Why Limousins keep winning steer competitions.
Monthly school visits:
- Rostered visits to schools by Junior members;
- Check on progress;
- Advise on feeding and breaking;
- Help develop show skills, eg grooming, washing, ringcraft;
- Help solve problems.
Junior members available at show:
- Help unloading;
- Help setting up;
- Keep track of scan results, live carcase results;
- Washup - lessons learnt.
Act as point of contact for:
- Schools or teachers wanting a Limousin steer for show;
- Students wanting to be involved with Limousins beyond school, such as
Heifer Show or other shows;
- Work experience.
SA Limousin Youth Awards, for example:
- Best Presented Steer;
- Best Handler in school classes;
- Ribbons, sponsorship, other awards for Heifer Show.
