Limousin cattle - the proven carcase breed

Grain-fed or grass-fed, Limousin comes up trumps

Welcome

Welcome to the website of the South Australian Limousin Breeders' Group. The Group comprises approximately 30 South Australian members of the Australian Limousin Breeders' Society.

The Group's activities are coordinated by a committee. Details of members who have registered contact details can be found on the members' webpage, and locations of all members can be found on the stud map webpage.

The aim of this website is to provide information on Limousins relevant to South Australia.

The origins of the breed go back several thousand years to France, from where exports in significant numbers did not occur until the 1960s. Since then, Limousins have become a popular terminal sire in most countries around the world, although they still remain a relatively minor breed in Australia. However, the breed's popularity is changing rapidly, as beef producers see the remarkable benefits that Limousin can bring to their operations.

Limousins are renowned for their longevity, hardiness, low maintenance costs, and are prolific and efficient producers of healthy, lean, tasty, tender meat. In trials, Limousins consumed half the feed of Angus and Hereford from weaning to slaughter but still produced the same amount of retail meat.

In Australia, Limousin and Limousin-cross steers have been beating most of the competition and chalked up impressive all-breed wins and places in major on the hoof and carcase competitions around the country.
